CommonersPeasants The typical subsistence farming citizen. In oppressive societies they may be more of a serf, farming a patch of land for their lord. Under more benevolent lords they may own or work to own the land they live on. In cities, these include various laborers, craftsmen and tradesmen. Succesful business people may be able to rise from the peasent class to the ranks of nobility.
Slaves Slavery is a fairly common pracive in Heroshi. Benevolent nations allow captured civilians from other countries to serve for a time to earn their freedom (at which time they become a peasant). These nations require that servants be treated with dignity and respect and provide for the needs of their family. Oppresive nations treat slaves as property, having no compunctions over dividing families or mistreating slaves for any reason.
Vagabonds Persons wandering aimlessly without ties to a place or community. Vagabonds have no fixed home, possibly having animal driven carts or carriages. Travelling entertainers, gypsies, mountebanks, and tinkers are among those considered vagabonds.
Watchmen Full time guards. Serve as police and firefighters in a settlement.
Merchants Career traders or peddlers who may travel between settlements or have permanent storefronts. The succesful ones may rise to the ranks of nobility.
