Elementals are the animals of the elemental planes. They vary in size and shape, and in fact resemble material plane animals suited for a similar envirionment. For instance a small elemental might resemble a lynx or a large, a bear. Fire elementals tend to resemble animals that live in tropical climes, water elementals resemble aquatic creatures, earth elementals burrowing animals, and air elementals avians.

They subsist on the material of the plane they come from, which, needless to say, is everpresent. When they are brought to the material plane, they begin fasting. Their hunger can only be quenched by consuming the substance from which they are made. Elementals can be motivated by offerings of these substances, much as one would a dog with a chunk of meat. Larger ones may be difficult to reason with in this manner, as they will just take it if they can.

Elementals of large size or greater reproduce (effectively) by budding. A piece of them breaks away and becomes a small elemental. Newly "born" elementals are left to their own devices and are not cared for or taught by their elders.

Elementals do not breathe, but eat (in their own fashion) and sleep.
