MagicArcane MagicHeroshi is a world in which arcane magic exists. That said, it is not as common as stink, such as in Eberron, where you can't kick a can without hitting something magic (and, in fact, the can itself is probrably magical). Neither is it completely unheard of and regarded with fear wherever it pops up or even so uncommon you have peasents going "Durrr, that's a wizzer?". However, arcane magic is rare. Few have the mental acuity and dedication to pursue the arcane arts.
Mana is the substance from which arcane magic is composed.
WizardsThere are a few ways to attain arcane instruction. One way is to be recognized by a resident wizard and taken on as an apprentice. Most wizards take an aloof approach to instructing their apprentices, telling them what to study or practice and then leave to persue their own tasks, periodically returning to check their progress. Once an apprentice shows competency (read: Wizard level 1), their master will allow them freedom to travel locally. Masters keep tabs on their apprectices, but to not feel compelled to baby sit them.
Another is to enroll in an Arcane Order accredited mage academy. The expense required for this education is high, but may be paid by wealthy family members or a previous instructor. These schools are few, generally one or two per nation, in populous cities. Locations include Hackport, New Veralys, Ruunmir, Mysthaven, Tespus, Selenia, and Muirstone.
Many wizards say "One cannot simply study a book of spells or scrolls and master the arcane arts!". In fact, it happens, but most wizards are the product of a formal education. This method of learning wizardry is also less respected than studying at an arcane academy or serving under a master. Also, one must somehow attain the materials to undergo this independent study.
SorcerersIt was once thought that only those with dragon blood had the capacity to develop an inate arcane bond. The truth is, anyone with the desire to seek their ancestors' legacy within themselves has potential to tap into the arcane. Bloodlines include arcane (from a long line of wizards), draconic, destined, elemental, abyssal (demonic heritage), aberrant (alien taint), celestial, fey, undead (taint of the grave), and infernal (diabolic heritage).
BardsBardic academies teach a wide variety of skills, foremost among them being entertainment and arcane magic. Alternatively to attending an academy, one may gain the diverse skills of a bard simply by recieving training from many teachers. Divine MagicThe deities of Heroshi allow their zealous followers an amount of their divine power.
Aether is the substance from which divine magic is composed. Deities channel their power through the ethereal plane to give access to their followers.

Dark MagicDark magic is not evil as the name may imply. It is a burdonsome and grave power to weild, which some would descibe as undesirable or regretable. The occult practice of dark magic stands to keep the knowledge thereof hidden from all but a certain few.
