So I downloaded the most recent D&D podcast today, and, knowing that you guys are less than likely to listen to them, I figured I would glean most important information for your (hopefully) benefit. I'll do this according to the order in which I heard things:

1) Greataxe damage reduced, to what? I don't know.. probably a d10 or something. Apparently some people thought that it was broken for doing as much (or more) damage as 2 one handed weapons.

2) Gnomes are def. out (at least from initial release), Warlocks are def. in

3) Spear is changed some.. the new javelin? Unsure.

4) Warlocks can still do the limited LoS teleport unlimited times per day

5) Warlocks can potentially do more damage now, also have power (or w/e they call them in 4e) that moves enemy around battlefield

6) Healing works differently. Various classes get healing powers, including fighters

7) Fighters have new abilities to control enemies' targets (MMOers read: Agro management)

By Krom! The machinations of Wizards one again vex me! (Article) Though they're not (yet) turning D&D into an MMORPG, they are creating a major schism between players: the haves (subscribers to D&D Insider) and the have nots. On one side we have the laptop party on VOIP headsets playing from their homes over their broadband connections, the latest tools available to them from DNDI. On the other, those lost in a shuffle of books, papers, and dice, cut off from the source which makes the game easier to play. I foresee games you can't even get in on if you don't have an account, such as at tournaments. The problem I see is that those who make an investment attain a favored status, while those without the money to back their gaming are left out, pretty much in a stagnating pool.

"D&D Insider subscribers will be able to create characters using content from any published book. To get access to the full details of the relevant rules and mechanical elements, though, you will need to own the E-version of the physical book where these rules or mechanical elements were published. When you purchase the printed book, a code will grant access to the E-version of the book for a nominal fee." (italics mine)

Oh, the online content is optional? Supposedly, but if you don't cough up the "nominal" wad of cash to activate your books (which you've already payed for once), you don't get functionality with the character builder, which, by the way, you're already paying for. So, what? They expect us to happily fork over $150-180 a year just for a subscription, plus whatever fees they feel like tagging on for activations and access to whatever other elite shit they come up with. Eventually your list of D&D Insider serviecs'll read like a freakin' phone bill.

"Our recommended specs for the PC platform includes Windows XP SP2, 512MB RAM, AMD XP 2400 + or Intel P4 2.6Ghz, and a graphic card with 128 MB RAM and support of Shader 2.0. These recommended specs allow you to experience the full range of lighting and Shader effects our 3D engine offers."

I never thought I'd see the day when your system specs would affect the quality of your gameplay, outside of, say, Neverwinter Nights. Hey, that's nice and cheap now, it works well on low end systems, and online play is free. If I wanted to host an online game, NWN would be my medium, not DNDI.

Wizard's wants our money - too much. Waving tantalizing fruit before beggars is just cruel. I don't appreciate their (or anyone's) preferential treatment for those with more money. If I buy a book, I demand full functionality for everything I paid for. This is an issue of fairness. If they're not playing fair, then I'm not playing with them at all.

Once again I uploaded an updated big map with labels (yeah, I'll eventually get around to the one without) and some more regional maps, most notably Selene. I should probrably mention that that the medium green over much of the map is considered hills terrain with moderate vegetation.
